Burundi has agreed to accept migrants deported from the US under Donald Trump's immigration policy, becoming one of several African nations to participate in the third-country deportation arrangement.
Nancy Ninette Mutoni, spokesperson for Burundi's president Évariste Ndayishimiye, confirmed the agreement on Tuesday. The country will only accept deportees who have not been accused of crime or terrorism links.
The announcement provided no information about the number of people expected to be deported, when deportations would begin, or what financial arrangements, if any, accompany the agreement.
