The Green Party of England and Wales has voted to end its longstanding opposition to nuclear power, marking a significant reversal in the party's energy policy.
Members adopted a motion at conference that removes the party's "blanket opposition to nuclear fission." The new position commits the party to assessing nuclear projects on the same basis as other low-carbon technologies, rather than automatically rejecting them.
The shift abandons a core environmental commitment the party had maintained for decades. Previously, the Greens had pledged to phase out nuclear power entirely.
