Jeffrey Archer, the bestselling novelist and former Conservative MP whose political career collapsed after a perjury conviction, has died at 86. His publisher HarperCollins said he died suddenly and peacefully at his home on Monday between writing sessions.

Archer served as a Conservative MP for five years and later held the position of deputy chair of the Conservative Party. His political trajectory ended in disgrace following his imprisonment for perjury.

After leaving Parliament, Archer pursued a successful career as an author, producing multiple bestselling novels that established him as a prolific writer. He remained active in writing until his death.
