Jaguar launched its Type 01 electric vehicle in New York this week, targeting wealthy American buyers with a car that measures over 5.2 metres long and 2 metres wide. The company priced the vehicle starting at £130,000, or $172,000.

The Type 01 comes without a rear window and is too large to fit into standard UK parking spaces, reflecting its design for American roads and drivers rather than European markets. Jaguar positioned the vehicle squarely at affluent tech industry buyers in the United States.

The launch concludes a two-year rebrand for Jaguar that The Guardian describes as "one of the most scrutinised in automotive history."
