The UK hospitality sector will create up to 100,000 job placements for young people not in employment, education or training over the next three years, under a government-backed scheme.
Bars, clubs and restaurants including Nando's and Fuller's will participate in the initiative, offering opportunities to 18- to 24-year-olds classified as Neet. The Department of Work and Pensions backs the scheme.
The move precedes publication of a report on youth unemployment by Alan Milburn, the former health secretary. Milburn has warned that the number of young people not in work or education in the UK could rise to 1.25 million over the next five years without ministerial intervention.
