Alan Feeney has resigned from his positions as a Reform councillor on Solihull and Birmingham councils following an undercover investigation that captured him making racist remarks.
Feeney announced his resignation in a Facebook post on Friday. "There is no excuse for my comments," he wrote. "With responsibility comes accountability, and it is for that reason that I have resigned every post I hold on both Solihull borough council and Birmingham city council."
The Guardian's undercover investigation filmed Reform UK councillors and candidates making racist and extreme comments. Feeney's remarks were part of that broader reporting.
The resignation follows public backlash over the recorded comments. Feeney acknowledged both the nature of what he said and the principle that elected office carries accountability.
