The Metropolitan police are investigating an allegation that Jeffrey Donaldson, the former leader of the Democratic Unionist Party, raped a woman inside the Palace of Westminster in 2016.

Scotland Yard confirmed on October 13 that it received a referral from the Police Service of Northern Ireland about the alleged rape involving a man now aged 63. The allegation relates to an incident at parliament.

Donaldson led the DUP, Northern Ireland's largest unionist party, until his resignation in May 2023. He has represented Lagan Valley as an MP since 1997.

The investigation remains in its early stages. No charges have been filed.
