An independent inquiry into child grooming gangs will investigate offending in Birmingham and Wales, the UK government announced Wednesday. The inquiry, chaired by Anne Longfield, the former children's commissioner, has power to compel witnesses and obtain documents to examine what individuals and agencies "did or did not do to protect children from being sexually abused."
The inquiry will conduct local investigations in those areas while also examining the wider picture of sexual abuse and exploitation of children across the country.
