Stellantis and Renault have called on the UK government to include British car manufacturing in proposed EU protectionist rules, while also urging limits on Chinese car imports.

Emanuele Cappellano, head of Stellantis's European brands including Fiat, Citroën, Opel and Vauxhall, and François Provost, chief executive of Renault, made the case that the UK should be treated as equivalent to one of the EU's 27 member states under draft "Made in Europe" legislation.

The two major carmakers back UK inclusion in the EU's proposed industry protection framework. They also want the British government to weigh restrictions on vehicles imported from China.
