Hurricane Nolo moved away from Hawaiian islands on Sunday but continued to threaten the island chain with heavy rain, flash flooding and strong winds. The storm was located about 365 miles south-southwest of Honolulu and moving away from the Big Island at approximately 12 miles per hour, according to reporting.

Maximum sustained winds in Hurricane Nolo reached 115 miles per hour. The Hawaii county civil defense agency maintained a high wind warning, wind advisory and high surf advisory for parts of the island chain through Sunday evening.

Areas of Hawaii remain vulnerable after previous storms. The persistent threat from Nolo adds to recovery challenges facing the islands.
